FEDERAL COURT DECISION (Read Full Decision here)

On June 14th  the Federal Court of Canada rendered its decision on the motion filed by Calvin White seeking an injunction  to delay the formation of the Qalipu Mi'Kmaq First Nation Band.  Paragraph 94 of the decision said "The motion is dismissed with costs to the other Plaintiffs and the Defendant."  Canada and the FNI are waiting to hear from Mr. White as to whether he intends to appeal the decision.  The FNI will continue to update the membership through this web page.

In the meantime, the Enrolment Committee continues to review applications.  The names of the Founding Members identified by the Enrolment Committee since November 30, 2009 will be added to the schedule to the Recognition Order as soon as possible after the creation of the Qalipu First Nation Band and every four months thereafter.

November 30, 2009 marked the conclusion of the first stage of the enrolment process held under the Agreement for the Recognition of the Qalipu Mi'kmaq First Nation Band.  This historic process has received overwhelming support and the number of individuals applying is significantly higher than expected.  As of March 11, 2011, in excess of 28,000 applications have been received and approximately 20,000 have been approved by the Enrolment Committee, chaired by Mr. Tom Rideout.
