Culture

The Newfoundland Mi'kmaq were once unaffected by the dominant cultures that surrounded them. Unfortunately this is no longer the case. Lately there has been an attempt by the bands, youth, women's groups and other groups of the FNI to revive this culture. At no time can one experience this revival more than on June 21, Aboriginal Day.

Members of the bands gather in there respective areas to celebrate Aboriginal Day through prayer, song, dance and ceremony. It has in itself become a wonderful teaching tool for the Mi'kmaq people. It is through these celebrations that they learn about the ceremonies and traditions of their forefathers.

There are a number different cultural events and groups that have arisen over the past few years. This site has been put in place to help these groups to promote themselves as well as any cultural facts that would be of interest to the membership.

If you would like to place any information on this site please contact the FNI at the info below.
