FNI Membership
All members of the Federation of Newfoundland Indians either:
- belong to one of nine FNI-affiliated bands
- have qualified for general membership
NOTE: FNI membership does not immediately confer membership in the Qalipu Mi’kmaq First Nation Band. Enrolment in this new band is a separate process. Learn more here.

You are eligible for band membership if you:

- have Mi’kmaq ancestry AND
- live within the geographic boundaries of an affiliated FNI band or have an historical connection to that band.
To apply for band membership, contact the appropriate band council. Band councils will provide application forms and enrolment guidelines.
The nine member bands are:
- Western region:
Corner Brook Indian Band
Elmastogoeg (Benoit’s Cove) First Nations Band
Flat Bay Indian Band
Indian Head First Nations Band
Port au Port Indian Band
St. George’s Indian Band
- Central region:
Gander Bay Indian Band
Glenwood Mi’kmaq First Nation Band
Sple’tk (Exploits) First Nation Band

General membership
You are eligible for band membership if you:
- have Mi’kmaq ancestry AND
- are not living within the geographic boundaries of an affiliated FNI band but do have an historical connection to that band.
